Gary Knight Named Yale McCluskey Fellow

The Florida Natural Areas Inventory is pleased to announce that Director Gary Knight has been named the McCluskey Visiting Conservation Fellow at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies for fall 2013. The fellowship was created to provide opportunities for individuals in the non-profit environmental community to conduct independent research and studies.

Gary has been with FNAI for 23 years, the last 18 as Director. He will take a six-month leave of absence from FNAI from July through December 2013 to share his FNAI experience with Yale faculty and students, and to develop new approaches for conservation in Florida. Dan Hipes, FNAI’s Chief Scientist who has worked with FNAI for more than 20 years, will serve as Acting Director in Gary’s absence.

Gary describes the fellowship as “an extraordinary opportunity to step away temporarily from the day-to-day administrative responsibilities at FNAI and to concentrate on larger conservation issues and utilize the superb resources available at Yale.” He says, “I hope to come back invigorated with new ideas and insights that can be applied at FNAI and that can help further conservation in Florida.”
