Process_Description:
Data on locations of contaminated ground water
sites (those not meeting primary drinking water standards in regard to any of
42 ground water contaminants as described by DEP rule 17-550) came from the
Health and Rehabilitative Services database, DEP ground water site
investigations, state and federal clean up sites, and modeled ground water
contaminent plumes. For HRS EDB wells, USGS 7.5" quadrangles were were
overlayed with 100 meter UTM grids. The location of each contaminated well
was digitized to the nearest 100 meters in the appropriate UTM projection.
These points were then buffered by 1000-2000 feet. Site maps and plume
models were transfered to 7.5" quads and digitized on a Calcomp 9100
digitizer using ARC/INFO.
The individual quad coverages of buffered points were projected from UTM to
Lambert using ARC/INFO for VMS on a VAX. The coverages were then mapjoined,
dissolved, projected to Albers Equal Area Conic, and exported. The exported
coverages were ftp'd to a DEC/ALPHA UNIX system, imported using ARC/INFO
6.1.2 and inserted into the quad library.
In Spring '97 the data was converted from NAD27 to HPGN using the
projection command within ARC/INFO version 7.0.4.
In Spring, 1999, the shapefile of this dataset was inserted in Spatial Database
Engine (SDE 3.0.2).
