Aquatic preserve: The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR, for short) is one of 26 such reserves in the country. These research areas not only help protect sensitive estuarine lands and waters, but they also serve to educate the public and provide study areas for scientists. Hiking trails: The High Bluff Coastal Trail in Tate's Hell State Forest is maintained by the Florida Division of Forestry. The trailhead for this 2-mile hike is on Highway 98, 4 miles west of Carrabelle. The Greenways and Trails website lists hiking trails in the region (www.floridadep.org/gwt/)
