The Florida Natural Areas Inventory maintains field guide accounts for more than 550 taxa of rare plants and animals. Accounts include detailed descriptions, photographs, drawings, maps, habitat information, and management guidelines for more than 330 plants and 210 animals. The initial series of accounts was published in 2000 (plants) and 2001 (animals) in hard copy format with funding from the Florida Department of Transportation. Subsequently, FNAI has written hundreds of additional accounts and updated many original ones; all of these are available only online via the FNAI website.

Note: not all taxa tracked by FNAI are included in the Field Guide. FNAI tracks more than 1,000 rare plants and animals.

Copies of the Rare Plant guide are no longer available. Remaining copies of the FNAI Field Guide to the Rare Animals of Florida are available FREE to anyone who wants to pick them up at our Tallahassee office; pickup in Gainesville may be possible. Because these guides were published in 2001, some technical information is now out of date, but they are still a very useful reference for Florida's rare species, with excellent photographs. To schedule a time to pick up Field Guides from our office, please call our Office Manager at 850-224-8207 ext. 201
